Overview

English Next (the “Service”) is a web application and accompanying Chrome browser extension that helps you practice English, look up translations, and save sentences for review. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Information we collect

Account information

When you sign in, we collect your email address and a user identifier provided by our authentication provider (Supabase). We do not store your password; it is handled by Supabase Auth.

Learning data

We store the content you choose to save, including vocabulary words, saved sentences (original text and its translation, plus optional source page URL and title), exercise progress, and practice results. This data is tied to your account and used to power the features you use.

Extension usage

The English Next browser extension runs on pages you visit to detect selected text when you trigger a translation. Selected text is only sent to our translation provider when you explicitly request a translation. We do not continuously read or transmit page contents. Page URL and title are only sent when you choose to save a sentence, as metadata for that saved entry.

What we do NOT collect

• Browsing history outside of text you explicitly translate or save.
• Form inputs, passwords, or cookies from third-party sites.
• Analytics or advertising identifiers.

How we use your information

• To authenticate you and keep you signed in.
• To provide translation, practice, and saved-sentence features.
• To sync your learning data across devices.

Third-party services

• Supabase — authentication and database hosting.
• Google Translate — translation of selected text you submit.
• Vercel — web app hosting.

These providers process data on our behalf under their own privacy terms.

Data retention and deletion

Your saved sentences and learning data are retained as long as your account exists. You can delete individual saved sentences from the app at any time. To delete your account and all associated data, contact us at the email address below.

Your choices

• Sign out of the extension at any time from the extension popup.
• Delete saved sentences individually from the Saved Sentences page.
• Uninstall the extension to stop all data collection from your browser.

Children's privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
